mother's day gift giving

The other night, D and I had a conversation on how interesting it was to him that I thought about upcoming holidays and occasions where we would want to purchase gifts so far ahead of time. I didn't think a couple weeks before Mother's Day was all that early. I also didn't tell him that I'm already toiling over what to do for Daddy's big 6-0 in January. I think it best to ease him into the Crazy Land portion of my brain as slowly as possible.

As we know, I'm a fan of the gift thing. Some would call it a love language. I would agree. For this fabulous Friday, I leave you with a little mom-gift inspiration:

[bracelet, pajama pants, soap dish with soap, photo mugs, dish towel, garden tools]

P.S. D and his group received constructive criticism, lots of "good jobs," and a solid round of applause! Thank you to those who have prayed for that seemingly impossible mountain of a project. We could never express our gratitude!

the impossibles

We took that love language test. And, I have to admit, it was pretty enlightening/accurate. To Dustin's horror, gifts is one of the ways that I both show love and feel loved. Which, like many things, is opposite for D. That's alright - a bigger challenge means bigger growth, right? Maybe that will comfort him.

I can honestly say that I thoroughly enjoy the thinking, the remembering, the planning, and the purchasing of gifts. I jot down ideas throughout the year in my phone or planner. Its a good thing too because Dustin couldn't think of one thing to put on his Christmas list.

The only thing that I don't enjoy is whenever I'm stumped for an idea. It's usually whenever that person has everything they could possibly need [which is most of us] and/or you've used all of your mental notes for him or her. That leaves me in a crumpled, tearful ball on the floor and feeling like an utter failure. I'm sure you can understand. No? Just me?

What I'm about to tell you makes me sound like a big gift-giving, shopping dork. But its a proven method. Yea, I just said proven method. In those seemingly hopeless gifting situations, I think about what that person is really interested in or what they might use the most on a day to day basis. And then, thanks to the incredible and steadily increasing creative community, I try to find the updated and sometimes extraordinary version. Let me tell you that my ceramic measuring cups from Anthropologie make baking so much more exciting than the white plastic ones.

wedding wednesday: giver of gifts

Have you ever taken the love language test? It's definitely insightful. I'm cautious to not allow the results of this test to become binding. Or to let them become an entitlement to be loved a certain way. But it's definitely an interesting way to [quickly] learn about how to love your significant other better. Which, of course, is great!

Among others, gift giving is a way that I both show and receive love. It's not the gift or the style or the price or anything like that. It's the thought. I am blessed when someone says, "I thought this looked like you." It's a quiet echo of the fact that we, as humans, long to be known.

I enjoy grabbing my cell phone and typing myself a reminder after hearing someone say they love/want/can't live without something. Only problem is that I have these lists that say something like "mom-head wrap, casserole, guys-mag, meter plate." Maybe I should be more specific.

With it being super wedding season, I've noticed lots of unique gifts for the bride-to-be [which fits the description of about a bazillion friends. LOVE IT!]. Here's my round-up:

  • Hand stitched dish towels. I'm already a sucker for these but add the wedding and bird factors in there and I'm totally done for. I've been stalking these for a while.
  • Personalized hangers to top of the bride's most important purchase of all time - the wedding dress!
  • A notepad to keep up with all those wedding planning to-do's.
  • The cutest coffee mugs I've ever laid eyes on.
  • Tervis tumblers. Great on their own. Better with a touch of wedding. [D and I love ours]
  • Luggage tags for the honeymooners.
  • Totally chic personalized totes for the busy bride.

Happy purchasing!
