shower inspiration

Some of my favorite memories of our entire engagement time will be our showers. I will always remember a phone call with Abs while we were both engaged when she, as she often does, took the words right out of my mouth. She told me how she was overwhelmed with the thoughtfulness and provision that she experienced through showers and parties and other ways friends and family provided for them as newlyweds. I couldn't have agreed more. It is as if those family and friends are standing beside you saying that they want you to survive and thrive, that they believe in this union, that they want you to be a part of this giant leap into a new phase of life. Knowing what a blessing that is, it makes shower-throwing much more than flowers and mini quiches punch bowls. Not that I don't love those things. I do. And pretty tea napkins, too.

So, with some betrothed as well as about-to-pop friends, I made myself baby and bridal shower inspirations boards. Enjoy - and feel free to leave more ideas below!

The excitement I feel when planning a shower or party is equal to this [prepare for a mix of my favorite SNL skit and some Jessie Spano]:

I'm not kidding. This is not an exaggeration. When we move to South Carolina, I've got to make some engaged and pregnant friends STAT.

that crazy planner lady

Today I finally saw it. It's what all my friends, family, and husband laughingly shake their heads at. And then they keep loving me anyway.

If there is an event or holiday coming up [which there always is], I absolutely cannot stop myself from thinking about it. And planning for it. And making list concerning it. A chronic list-maker, I am. This started young. I used to read my packing list for our church's overnight kids camp around 115 times. I'm pretty sure that's accurate. And then, knowing their list wasn't sufficient, I'd make one of my own. A more detailed one, of course. And my "day of prom" schedule - I'm pretty sure I made a special heading on the computer for that one. Oh and don't even get me started on when my yearbook staff was in charge of our high school's Sadie Hawkins dance. I sketched and made lists and came up with slogans and designed posters.

And now I realize it - I'm crazy. And you know how I realized it? It was right after I finished writing this:

That's OK, right? I mean, I rarely forget things. Except to wash D's work clothes. I'll start making a list for those now. Christmas probably isn't the best example because it is the holiday of all holidays with the very best decorations and the very best events. And this holiday of all holidays, of course, calls for the list of all lists.

It may not look like it, but I do my very best to give Thanksgiving its due. I'm holding off on the music [even though I'm ITCHING to download the She&Him Christmas album] and there is not a decoration in sight. But, so that the Christmas season can commence as soon as humanly possible, I've got to be well planned:

A Jenkins Christmas = plaid and mercury glass and rustic wood and warmth and holiday Americana and the charm of yesteryear.

Alright, now you know my crazy planner side. Happy Holiday Planning to you! Unless you want me to do it for you. I will. I can make a list.

la vida es buena

Mexico planning is in full swing. Sometimes I stop and think, "Am I really the student in charge of this trip?" I'm not expecting a second of down time these next couple of weeks, but I can't think of anything else more worthwhile to spend my time on. As of right now, we've got about 140 going! I see the Lord molding this trip into exactly what He wants it to be. Praise Him for His sovereignty! I pray to be soft and moldable clay and not the tough kind that would turn His knuckles white while trying to shape me. Please pray for Mexico!

Give me one pure and holy passion
Give me one magnificent obsession
Give me one glorious ambition for my life
To know and follow hard after you
To know and follow hard after you
To grow as your disciple in the truth
This world is empty, pale, and poor
Compared to knowing you my Lord
Lead me on and I will run after you
